Rufus writes to his aunt and uncle from Cincinnati, Oh. He refers to a person, probably a relative, who has joined Fremont's Body Guard in Jefferson City, Mo. He mentions that many regiments are passing over the Ohio River into Kentucky and describes the fortifications that have been constructed around Cincinnati. Much of the letter is of a patriotic tone, stating the need to wipe out the secession movement and reestablish the Union.
